How We Are Building a Luxury Lighting Studio's Shopify Plus Store
About the Studio
Our client is a luxury lighting studio: chandeliers, pendants, sconces, flush mounts and table lamps in brass, stone, glass and leather, many of them made to order. Its new store runs on Shopify Plus, and is in development.
The Challenge
A luxury catalogue has to look as considered online as its pieces do in a room. The store we took on had five near-identical product templates, a stylesheet held together by hundreds of !important overrides, a checkout in a fallback typeface, and emails that did not match the brand. And trade customers needed accounts and pricing of their own.
The Solution
We consolidated the product templates, keeping the bespoke chandelier page as the one documented variant, and removed 9,333 lines of duplicated code. We untangled the stylesheet’s cascade, measuring each !important flag in the browser before it went. We branded the checkout to the brand’s standard, from its typeface to its palette, and rebuilt all 45 customer email templates on the designer’s key.
Trade customers have company accounts, a B2B catalogue and price list, and account pages we built for them. Now we are building the designer’s website specification into the theme, page by page.
The Impact
Five product templates, now two
The chandelier page keeps its own template, because a bespoke chandelier is specified differently. Every other product shares one, so a product-page change is no longer made five times.
376 overrides down to 57
Each !important flag was switched off in the browser, across the store’s pages at three widths, and kept only where it still did something.
Every customer email on brand
All 45 customer notifications carry the designer’s key, from the order confirmation to the shipping updates.
